Therapy for Supporting Loved Ones Struggling with
Addiction or Mental Health Issues

Our therapists at Intuitive Healing understand the challenges that come with having family members or partners suffering from addiction or mental illness. It can be an incredibly difficult process to observe and care for them, while also trying to take care of yourself. Here at Intuitive Healing, we support clients struggling with supporting addiction by:

  • Support and Information: Our therapists offer a safe space for you to focus on yourself and receive connection and support through gaining information regarding addiction and mental illness. Our therapists who are trained in this area have worked directly with clients struggling with serious mental illness or addiction, so they specifically understand the nuance of supporting someone struggling in these areas. We’re also here to support you through feelings of burnout or other warranted reactions you may be struggling with as a caregiver.

  • Teaching Communication Skills and Boundary Setting: It may be particularly challenging for you to set boundaries or communicate effectively with your loved one. We’re here to help you deal with the pain that may come from taking on the responsibility of caring for your loved ones in these states, while also lovingly challenging you to create boundaries and find personal freedom so that you aren’t consumed by another person’s struggle.

  • Addressing Codependency: You may notice that you’re seeking to control, fix, or save your loved one from their addiction, and that you’re only able to feel stable if they are in a stable place. Our therapy for codependency will help you shift the awareness back onto yourself and explore areas where you may be avoidant or distracted from your own pain.

  • Additional Support: Outside of individual therapy, we also offer family or couples therapy, and our therapists can provide referrals and resources to groups such as AI-Anon or NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). This is done in a warm and compassionate approach, where you are welcome to process your thoughts and feelings and ultimately reach peace within yourself and your relationships with your family members suffering from addiction or mental illness.
